Notice at collection, in short

  • What we collect: your name, phone, email, home address and state; your answers in the estimate (home ownership, property type, electric bill, utility, roof age); and how you use this site.
  • Why: to prepare your estimate, call you about it, design and install your system, run this site, and measure our ads.
  • We don’t sell your information for money. We share website activity with Meta for advertising, which some state laws call a “sale” or “sharing.” You can opt out on Your Privacy Choices. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal, a browser setting that tells websites not to share your data.
  • How long: if you don’t become a customer, we keep your estimate request for 1 year, then delete it.

Renewable Energy 1989, LLC (“Renewable Energy 1989,” “we,” “us”) is a private company based in Montana. We supply and install solar and battery systems for homes in the 19 states we serve. This policy explains how we handle personal information on this website, in your estimate and when we talk to you. We’re not a government program and not your utility.

On this website we don’t ask for your Social Security number, bank or card details, or precise GPS location, and we don’t collect biometric data. We don’t collect “sensitive data” as state privacy laws define it.

While you fill in the estimate, your answers stay in your browser (session storage), so you don’t lose them if you go back a step. They reach us when you send the contact form. This site also remembers in your browser that you closed the cookie notice and any choice you made on Your Privacy Choices.

How we use it

  • To prepare your estimate and show the savings for our three packages.
  • To call and email you about your estimate and answer your questions.
  • If you become a customer: to design, permit, install, connect and service your system, and to keep our warranty and service promises.
  • To run, secure and improve this website.
  • To measure and improve our ads on Meta (Facebook and Instagram), unless you opt out.
  • To follow the law, keep required records, and protect our customers and our business.

We don’t make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects by automated means alone.

Who we share it with

  • Our own team: our employees in sales, design, installation and service.
  • Service providers that work for us under contract and may use your information only to provide their service to us: website hosting, our customer database, email and phone systems, and similar tools.
  • Meta, for advertising: website activity through the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API (see below).
  • Utilities, permit offices and inspectors, if you become a customer, to permit and connect your system.
  • Advisers and authorities: our lawyers and accountants, and government agencies when the law requires it.
  • A buyer or successor, if our business is sold or merged. This policy still applies to your information.

We don’t sell your personal information for money. We don’t give your contact details to other companies so they can market to you.

Advertising and cookies

We advertise on Meta. To see which ads work, this website uses the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API. They tell Meta about your visit, for example that you viewed a page or asked for an estimate. Under the laws of California and several other states, this can count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information for targeted advertising. Meta uses this information under its own privacy policy.

You can opt out at any time on Your Privacy Choices. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as an opt-out for that browser automatically. After you opt out, we don’t send your activity on this site to Meta for advertising.

To remember an opt-out, this site sets one small cookie, re-optout, that only records your choice. It isn’t used for advertising.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Without browser storage, some parts of the site may not work, such as keeping your estimate answers when you go back a step.

Do Not Track. Browsers’ “Do Not Track” setting has no common standard, so this site doesn’t respond to it. We do honor Global Privacy Control.

Calls

When you send the estimate form, you ask us to call you about your estimate. We call by hand. We don’t text you, and we don’t use autodialers or prerecorded calls. If you ask us to stop calling, we stop.

How long we keep it

  • Estimate requests from people who don’t become customers: 1 year. Then we delete them.
  • Website and advertising data: up to 1 year.
  • Customer records (proposal, contract, permits, installation and service records): as long as your system’s warranties and our service last, and longer when the law requires.

Your privacy rights

Depending on your state, the law may give you the right to:

  • Know and access the personal information we have about you, and get a copy in a portable format.
  • Correct information that is wrong.
  • Delete your information. Some records we must keep, for example for a contract or a warranty.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your information and of targeted advertising.
  • Appeal our decision if we turn down your request.
  • Equal treatment: we won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights.

How to make a request

  • Email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject line, or
  • call .
  • To opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising, use Your Privacy Choices. No account needed.

We confirm we got your request within 10 business days and answer within 45 days. If we need more time, up to 45 more days, we tell you why. To protect you, we check requests to access, correct or delete by matching the details you give us with ours, such as your name, phone and email. An authorized agent can make a request for you; we may ask for proof that you gave them permission.

Appeals. If we turn down your request, reply to our answer with “Appeal” in the subject line. We answer within 45 days. If you’re still not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.

State-specific notes

  • We don’t sell or share the information of people we know are under 16.
  • We don’t use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
  • “Shine the Light” law: we don’t share personal information with other companies for their own direct marketing.

Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Montana, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia

These states give residents the rights listed above, including the right to opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal data, and the right to appeal. We use website activity for targeted advertising through Meta; you can opt out at any time.

Utah

Utah residents can opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal data, and can use the request process above.

Nevada

We don’t sell covered information for money as Nevada law defines it. You can still send us an opt-out request at the contacts below.

Security and children

We protect personal information with reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards. No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your information, we notify you as the law requires.

This website is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
